Full Investigation Launched Into Jordanian Embassy Bombing

The Coalition Provisional Authority condemns the Aug. 7 terrorist bombing of the Jordanian Embassy in Baghdad.

This attack was a terrorist atrocity, costing innocent Iraqis their lives. Whoever carried out this attack, and whatever their motives, they proved their total disregard for human life. They are clearly opposed to progress and to freedom in Iraq.

Ambassador Bremer commented: "I express my sincere condolences to the Iraqi families who lost loved ones in this attack, as well as to the families of Jordanian nationals who were injured.

We will do all we can to help the Iraqi authorities find these people and bring them to justice. The coalition and the Iraqis have common cause and common aims in rooting out those who seek to intimidate and to terrorize."

A joint investigation between the coalition and the Iraqi Police Service is already underway. Coalition forces secured the perimeter of the site shortly after the explosion, and remain in place.

As in other operations, the coalition will help the Iraqi Police Service by providing advice, training and equipment. At the request of the Ministry of Interior, the FBI will give additional assistance by leading this investigation.
