Australia's Prime Minister Guest of Bush at Texas Ranch

President Bush welcomed Australian Prime Minister John Howard and his wife aboard Air Force One in Santa Clara, California, May 2 after Bush made remarks on economic and national security at United Defense Industries, a company in Santa Clara that designs, develops and produces combat vehicles, artillery naval guns, missile launchers, and precision munitions used by the Department of Defense and U.S. allies. The Howards accompanied Bush to his ranch in Crawford, Texas, where they were to spend the night. The two leaders planned to participate in meetings, hold a joint press availability, and have lunch together before the Prime Minister and Mrs. Howard depart Crawford on Saturday, May 3. White House Press Secretary Ari Fleischer told reporters "the United States and Australia are close friends, steady and strong, and they have been there for the United States. The president wants to express his appreciation for [Howard's] stalwart support and that's why we're going to the ranch." BUSH WEEK AHEAD SCHEDULE On Monday, May 5, Bush will depart his Texas ranch and travel to Little Rock, Arkansas, where he will participate in a roundtable discussion with small business owners and employees. Following the roundtable, the president will make remarks on his jobs and growth plan. Tuesday, May 6, the president will make remarks to the Tax Relief Coalition at the United States Chamber of Commerce. That afternoon he'll meet with the prime minister of Singapore in the Oval Office and sign the U.S.-Singapore Free Trade Agreement. Thursday, May 8, Bush will meet with seven Central European foreign ministers in the Roosevelt Room, and then make remarks in the Rose Garden. Friday, May 9, the President will deliver the commencement address at the University of South Carolina.
