U.S. Forces Capture Three Top Officials in Saddam Hussein's Regime

(Central Command Report, May 2: Iraq Operational Update) (140) Washington -- U.S. forces have captured three top leaders in the defunct regime of Saddam Hussein, including two Revolutionary Command Council officials and the director of Iraq's weapons development program, the U.S. Central Command says. Abd al Tawab Mullah Huwaysh, director of the Office of Military Industrialization; Taha Muhyl al Din Maruf, vice president and a Revolutionary Command Council member; and Mizban Khadr Hadi, another Revolutionary Command Council member who had been an adviser to Saddam since the early 1980s, were captured May 1, CENTCOM said in a brief statement. The Office of Military Industrialization was responsible for the development of Iraq's most lethal weapons. Huwaysh was listed as No. 16 on the most-wanted list, Hadi was No. 41 and Maruf was No. 42.
