Food for Zoo Animals Arrives in Baghdad from Kuwait

(Coalition transported donation from Kuwaiti Government) (200) A two-week supply of fruits, vegetables, and meat for the animals of the Baghdad Zoo, donated by the Government of Kuwait, arrived in the city on April 19, according to an announcement from U.S. Central Command. Following is the text of the Central Command news release: (begin text) NEWS RELEASE HEADQUARTERS UNITED STATES CENTRAL COMMAND MacDill Air Force Base, Florida April 19, 2003 BAGHDAD ZOO ANIMALS BENEFIT FROM KUWAITI GOVERNMENT, COALITION EFFORTS Baghdad -- A much-needed convoy of food arrived Saturday to aid the animals of the Baghdad Zoo, thanks to the efforts of the Coalition and the Kuwaiti Government. In response to a request to the Coalition from the Baghdad Zoo for assistance in caring for animals there, a two-week supply of fruits, vegetables, and meat, as well as a one-month supply of dry feed, was donated by the Kuwaiti Government. The Coalition's Humanitarian Operations Center arranged for transportation of the shipment from Kuwait to Baghdad. The Kuwait Zoo, and Kuwait's Director General of the Public Authority for Agricultural Affair and Fisheries earlier offered to provide veterinary and agricultural support to Iraq.
