Important Lesson From Iraq

Amr Mohammed Al-Faisal They had to adopt this strategy, as most of the rulers lacked
confidence in their people and believed that the support of superpowers
would enable them to govern their countries and prevent domestic forces
from rising up. The rulers believe that the superpower will support their rule. But
what is happening in Iraq has undermined these beliefs. In Iraq, the
world’s only superpower is facing strong resistance from the people of
an underdeveloped country. They are defending their ruler and his
regime, despite what we know about the oppressive policies of that ruler
and his regime. This leads us to the conclusion that a strong relationship between a
people and its leadership is the real guarantor of a regime’s survival
and safety. Dependence on foreign powers can be an unsuccessful policy,
as events have shown that Western support will not be able to keep a
government in power if the people strongly oppose it. The case of the
Shah in Iran is an example. But the situation in Iraq today is quite the contrary. Suppose Saddam
Hussein had ruled his people in a different way — that is to say,
benignly, instead of oppressing them. How much stronger could have been
their resistance to the invading forces! The question is: Will Arab and Muslim rulers learn from this example? *** I see the beginning of the failure of America’s international
policy. It gives rise to the speculation that, as these signs become
stronger, the ruling elite in the United States will look for a
scapegoat or several scapegoats to channel the anger of the American
public, who will soon arise from their deep slumber to understand the
enormity of the setbacks they have suffered. The ruling elite is a group of rich capitalists, mostly of
Anglo-Saxon origin, who are considered the real power in America,
although there also exists a notion that the Jewish minority is the most
powerful. In Western societies, throughout history, minorities — especially
Jews — have been easy scapegoats for societies to vent their anger
over the mistakes and corrupt practices of their rulers. That is what is happening in the US now, as the ruling elite exploits
80 percent of the country’s resources. The majority of American armed
forces who sacrifice their lives in Iraq, Afghanistan and other
countries come from the lower strata of society. At the same time, the
Anglo-Saxons who have dragged them into these wars are enjoying
themselves and getting richer. The biggest group of personalities and think tanks who have been
projected as supporters or instigators of the war on Iraq and
America’s aggressive policies in general are from the Jewish minority. This is not accidental, nor is it evidence of the power of the
Zionist lobby in the US. It is to set up the Jewish community as a
scapegoat, so that it can be made to take full responsibility for the
failure of those policies. The American people will naturally show their
anger toward these Jews without attacking the ruling Anglo-Saxon elite. I expect that the Jewish minority in the US will be in a very
uncomfortable situation. The American people will discover how the Jews were cheating the
United States when all the files that have been put on the shelves are
opened. They include the files on the Israeli bombing on the American
ship Liberty in the 1967 war, on Jonathan Pollard, the spy who sold
American military secrets to China and Russia, and many others. You will be amazed to see how quickly the American Jewish minority
changes from a pampered group into an oppressed one. And this will
naturally have a direct impact on the Israeli state. Arab News Opinion 6 April 2003 |
