Witnesses said that the American forces detained yesterday the Iraqi ambassador to Egypt Nabil Najm al- Takriti. He was not listed on the names of those most wanted by Washington.

The witnesses added that al-Takriti, member in the former Baath party, disappeared at the beginning of the war and his house was still empty in Baghdad until his return back yesterday.

One witness living near al-Takriti house said "A jeep car came to his house and American soldiers took him." He served as Iraq's ambassador to Egypt.
