DAMMAM, 7 May 2003 — “The war is over but our worries are not,” is a general feeling expressed by people in this part of the world, and the tension of the Iraq crisis is still very much evident on their faces.

Many people here as well as Iraqis are looking forward to see Iraq re-built and developed by its own people.

“What we are concerned with now is the future of Iraq, after the difficult time we’ve been through,” Ibraheem Al-Naser told Arab News.

“The Iraqis should concentrate on their future rather than look back to their suffering; they also have to put internal hostilities behind them,” Al-Naser added.

Mohammed Al-Abbad said the most important thing now was to stabilize the security situation in Iraq to enable the Iraqis to go back to their normal lives and to get government departments back to work as soon as possible.

Dr. Abdullah Al-Abdullah said: “The Iraqis need to run their country themselves without external intervention.”

Iraq’s resources and wealth should belong to the Iraqis alone, he stressed. “The money must be spent on the Iraqis, their health care and welfare,” Al-Abdullah said.

Khaleel Adnan asked Iraqis to avoid conflicts between the different groups — Sunni, Shia, Kurdish and Turkoman — in the country.

“If they can overcome their differences, everything will be much easier,” Adnan added.
